This Friday, April 3, Mexico City faces a day with multiple road closures and mobility issues due to religious celebrations for Good Friday, one of the most important dates of Holy Week. According to the mobilization schedule from capital authorities, processions, Stations of the Cross, and mass events are planned in various boroughs, with Iztapalapa and the Historic Center being the points with the highest concentration of people. In the Cuauhtémoc borough, various religious activities will take place, such as the Historic Center's Stations of the Cross, which will depart from the Ex Convento de Regina heading to the capital's Zócalo, impacting streets like Regina, 20 de Noviembre, and avenues near the downtown area. Additionally, the Procession of Silence at the Metropolitan Cathedral will cause disruptions in the Zócalo vicinity, with possible closures on avenues such as Pino Suárez and adjacent streets. A procession is also planned to depart from Venustiano Carranza to the Zócalo, traveling on thoroughfares like Fray Servando Teresa de Mier, Escuela Médico Militar, and 20 de Noviembre, which could complicate vehicular traffic during the afternoon and evening. Iztapalapa and other boroughs see higher attendance. As every year, the representation of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ in Iztapalapa will gather thousands of attendees at points like the Macroplaza Cuitláhuac, Cerro de la Estrella, and the Santuario del Señor de la Cuevita, so circulation cuts on main avenues of the demarcation are expected. Likewise, other religious activities will be held in various boroughs such as Venustiano Carranza, where there will also be processional routes that could generate partial closures. Faced with this scenario, authorities recommend that the population take precautions, avoid the downtown area, and consider alternative routes, as road impacts will extend for most of the day due to the high influx of worshippers and visitors.
